Although the man was not seriously injured, he told rescuers he had gone into the water to try to help a woman he had seen struggling in the water. Cox said the department launched boats and deployed searchers along the creek down to its confluence with the Colorado River, but they saw no sign of the woman. Cox said he believes the woman may have been able to escape the creek, and he disputed claims that the woman was presumed dead. He said the department had helped close down dozens of roads throughout town and was assisting in many minor rescues. An ice storm warning was in effect until Monday morning for much of North Texas, including Dallas and Fort Worth, where residents braced for a slick mixture of sleet, freezing rain and snow. About 300 flights had been canceled so far Saturday at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, spokesman David Magana said.
Disabled skiing takes big stage with high-flying acts at Winter X Games
ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - Action sports athletes are constantly looking for ways to push boundaries, whether it's completing a 1200 on a snowboard or doing a backflip on a snowmobile. Disabled skiers are no different, taking their adaptive skis from race courses to the boxes and rails of terrain parks, even hucking over 12-metre gaps and dropping off 10-metre cliffs - on one-track skis. Now, after years of getting gnarly in relative obscurity, they'll get a chance to show what they can do on a much grander stage: the Winter X Games. When the games open Thursday, disabled skiers will be right there next to the hippest and most talented action sports athletes in the world, charging down the same courses and pulling off many of the same tricks on their sitdown skis.

Riders urge Port Authority to trim, not cut threatened North Hills ...
Loss of the 11C bus route will mean longer commutes, more crowded buses and missed medical appointments, people in the North Hills told members of the Port Authority board. "I don't know how people will get to [UPMC] Passavant Hospital," said Judith Davin, of West View. "I am legally blind ... and good bus service was why I moved to West View." Robert Lacher said. The 11C connects West View and Ross with Downtown Pittsburgh and several places to the north, including UPMC Passavant, La Roche College, Northland Public Library and Duncan Manor Shopping Center. The 11C is one of 124 weekday routes slated for elimination as part of the Port Authority's effort to head off an $80 million operating deficit next year. The public transit agency also is contemplating two options for fare increases: a $2 flat fee for all zones or a $2.50 base fare that maintains free service within part of Downtown Pittsburgh.
